Exceptional Pitching, Timely Hitting Lead to Triumph
Mets 3-2 Diamondbacks | August 30, 2024
In a thrilling display of resilience, the New York Mets secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night, completing a three-game sweep of the series.
The game remained scoreless until the fourth inning when the Diamondbacks struck first with a solo home run by Ketel Marte.
However, the Mets responded quickly in the bottom of the fifth. Star shortstop Francisco Lindor led off with a single, followed by a double from Jeff McNeil, putting runners on second and third. Pete Alonso then delivered a clutch groundout, driving in Lindor to tie the game.
The Mets took the lead for good in the seventh inning when Brandon Nimmo singled in Eduardo Escobar, who had singled earlier in the frame.
On the mound, Mets starter David Peterson threw 5.2 solid innings, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out eight batters. The bullpen came through, with Seth Lugo and Edwin Diaz combining to shut down the Diamondbacks' offense over the final 3.1 innings.
The victory marked the fifth straight win for the Mets, who have now won seven out of their last ten games. They remain in first place in the NL East, four games ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies.
